It works very well for learning to hear the 'click' of a solid impact with the putter. I think it almost can work too well if that is possible, to the extent that when you try it you may find that the better impact makes distance control/power shift and require less 'effort' for a given distance. The downside is a ball that hops, which indicates too little loft and/or too steep an impact.

I notice a similar effect from C-grooves and a hooded putter.
