first i must say what a pleasure it is to find this site. i have again realized that i am a hitter of the ball.i have no problems with iron clubs, but woods, whether it be driver or 3 wood give me fits. i tend to hit them either low or low and left. i believe it is because i am still trying to swing the club and either sway ahead of the ball or i am closing the face and smoothering the ball. it is frustrating my game. any and all advise is welcome. thank you also do hitters loose a club in length to swingers?

DO NOT believe ANYONE that says to "catch the ball on the upswing." You need to take an air divot when hitting anything off of a tee. In other words, the club has to still go DOWN to LOW POINT after impact. If you don't, you'll be caught steering. Additionally, there shouldn't be a loss in distance.
thanks for the replies. i feel i have found the greatest site in the world. i have read tgm, listened to mark evershed, bobby schafer, and watched the great mo norman but never quite got the whole message.so, i went back to my percy boomer swing and have played at times very good golf. but, i have always been of the opinion there was a wood stroke and an iron stroke. upon checking my wood hit after the replies, i am indeed using too much right wrist action and smoothering the ball. it did improve when i felt like i was verticle hinging, but should i feel like i am opening the club head? it feels like (and i say this knowing the ball was already gone) i was in a way scooping the ball. in other words my hands feel like they want and have to come in (go to the left of my body). Does the club head feel like it is behind the right shoulder at impact? for some reason when i think of hitting my right side tends to want to take over-which leads to 0TT and smothering. sorry for the long post but i am excited to start playing G.O.L.F. the correct tgm way. again any and all replies are welcome thanks
Hi Greg, I have the same problem too. I can nail my irons but when I put my 3W or driver in my hands it's a major problem. It's cold here so I'm hitting into a net but my balls travel very low to the ground with my driver. I can't tell what direction there going since it's a net, all I know is that they go Extremely low. I was thinking I was delofting the club too much, not sure??? Do you have that problem too?
curtis, i have only been able to go out and hit balls once since starting the "hitting" swing with my woods. i have always been long off the tee. that is why i am so frustrated. what i found on the range was that i had to concentrate on the handle of the club-not the club head. i felt like the target line and the line between the last 2 fingers of my left hand stayed parallel. also another thought that helped was feeling that my right hand was opening up as i went thru the ball.i hope this makes since to you.i am asking questions also because i am not sure this is the correct way to tgm hitting. when i try to just feel that it is a right arm thrust i feel that i must come over the top and smother it. i too am asking for any information and other drills. i do know that i am going to keep on "hitting" all clubs, because for the first time in my life i actually believe all clubs are to be struck the same. thanks gt
curtis, i have been delofting the club. i feel that i have been making too strong of a left hand grip. when i started putting my left thumb on top of the grip with no gap between the thumb and left forefinger (thought of as thumb being the leading edge of club face) things improved.also made sure my shoulders and club face stayed on the correct plane and try to maintain steady head or spine tilt. gt

Greg - not meaning to kill those new feelings, but most hitters are using the strong single action grip with the thump on the aft side of the grip which by some are done by actually making a small gap between the hand and the thumb.
I'm not the expert, so hopefully Ted or one of the other gurus are chiming in on this.

Some food for thought per Newton's Third Law, Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
In golf, if you hit up on the ball, the ball goes DOWN.
If you hit down on the ball, the ball goes UP.
The only way to know if you are in fact delofting the club TOO MUCH is to capture your swing on high speed video. I would also advise you to go visit a competent AI in your area for some professional assistance.

For hitters, you need to stay ahead of centrifugal force, any rotation produces centrifugal force.
For the shorter clubs (irons), it is possible to have some rotation and yet hit fairly decent shots.
For the longer clubs, this is the acid test of whether you are hitting it correctly or not.
