Thanks for the comments, hit the range over the weekend and concentrated on getting the clubhead more outside of my hands half way back i.e. getting a bit steeper on the backstroke and flatter on the downstroke. Half way back the club is now parallel to the target line instead of pointing to the right. Looked at it on video afterwards and is a lot more on plane now... still work to do though as it felt like a massive change but is pretty subtle when you look at it on the video.
