TGM seems to indicate that this grip could work well for some short shots... probably pitching, and bunker shots etc..

You're right, TGM does not go into much other detail about this grip. With a little adjustment to the right hand... and you've got the often recommended 10-2-B Grip.

Maybe Mr. Yoda will chime in.
