It allows you to maintain PP#1, while showing the right forearm motion, as well as using the right arm to cock (and uncock) the left wrist. The other drill, fingers interlocked, will show you how a 'karate chop' of the pinky side of both hands will result in throw out and the pivot causing rotation (roll).
