I figured I'd throw this in just because the subject was here. When you hit a cue ball with side english, the cue ball doesn't go forward along the same straight line from which it was struck. The cue ball will actually "squirt" off on a line that is opposite from the side that it was struck on. It will then begin to curve (which pool players call "deflection") back in the direction of the side of the ball that it was struck on. So, if you hit the cue ball on the left, for example, it will squirt off to the right, then deflect back to the left. That is assuming that the cue stick is parallel to the target line during the stroke. I dont know how helpful any of that is for visualization purposes as they relate to golf, but oh well.
