In my case steering = bending the plane line right in followthrough leading to a high hands finish. At Canton Brian Manzella thought this was my biggest fault.
The remedy was learning how to swing on plane. I am doing lots of training on this now using a laser from impact onwards keeping the laser pointed at the base line and in my case (swinger) training in horizontal hinging. Also I am working on keeping the club on plane through the followthrough swivel. Clyde Melancon of

Has made me up a prototype of a Dual Laser Grip. A grip with a laser at both ends 180* from eachother.

I got the idea for the device when working on killing my steering action. It is due to turn up any day but I have a got a good feeling about it. Swinging on plane feels like you are swinging well left in followthrough compared to steering.
