Mr. Kelley listed the component variations from easiest to most difficult, so for the patterns I would believe one would try to master the easiest, most compatable components first, then if one wants or has the propensity to change the components to fit their preferred pattern they would have that option, with the blessing of their AI of course!!!

The swinging pattern actually has 10-23-c, 10-23-e is used normally with no axis tilt. As you notice Mr. Kelley recommends avoiding customizing the components until expert stage is approached, great advice for most, but TGM is all about options!!!
