right wrist bend
On the takaway I can bend my right wrist backwards and at the top the palm of my hand feels like it is facing behind me with the right wrist bent. I can also take it away with what might be called right arm fanning and then and at the top the palm of my hand feels like it is facing the target line with right wrist bent. Which one is prefered for hitting?

Fish in a Bucket
Imagine that you are holding up a leaning wall, which is of course a Plane. Your palm would support the wall like the Plane of the golf swing. If you have the right palm facing behind you, you've overcooked it.

Try this as prescribed by Yoda . . . grab a dowel, ruler, old shaft or something and imagine you're going to spear a fish. Boom! That's where you need to be at the Top. Your right wrist will be Level Bent and palm up to the plane. That's all you gotta do. Look at your right shoulder. How far have you turned? Not too much right? Look at your feet and legs. Pretty much just standing in place and raising your arm up? That's all you need. No perverted axis tilt, shoulder turn or foot action. There's your Backstroke.

Next . .

Then spear the fish. What you just executed was a Straight Line Deliver Path of the hands to the Aiming Point. There's your Start Down. Straight line DOWN and THROUGH the Aiming Point.

Dead Fishy.

Great I love fishing rather than the what I felt was a bowling ball backswing. I always felt is was a overcook but earlier teachers ignore your grip and if it is weak instead of correcting the grip they make you spend hours and money to just never get there. What you suggest is what I am trying to do and before I drilled myself Ithough confirmation would be important.

Thanks

There is no argument in the concept of moving the club and through mirrors verifying correct positions and then establishing feel from that. The question really becomes what are you looking for. I can verify the club is on Plane at the top by looking at the shaft angle. Does that mean my right forearm and right wrist is in the right position? Look look is used a lot but sometimes The descriptions of what to look for are not too clear.

Check the Archives on this site for the Magic of the Right Forearm Primer. You will know and feel the the alignments after reading and seeing the pictures. Basically the shaft and your right FOREARM should be in the same plane. Imagine that you are able to lay your right forearm and a dowel on a table. The entire length of the dowel and your right forearm should rest on the table. Now just imagine an inclined table top.

One of the critical and overlooked concepts in TGM is keeping the right wrist LEVEL. Everybody has figured out right wrist bent. But you have to keep it LEVEL and bent. The right wrist doesn't take the club UP. Bending the right elbow takes it up and cocks the left wrist while the right wrist is LEVEL. The LEVEL condition of the right wrist keeps the clubshaft and the the right forearm in the same plane. And this the structure of the right forearm flying wedge.

This is easy to miss but very very important.

Me Likey...Dead Fishy!!!

Spear that little rascal...

Neal Lancaster told me it felt like he was holding an "Umbrella" at Shoulder level...

Him being a Natural swinger....Hated it!!!...

But that's what his teacher....Dennis Sheahy was teaching him...Hitting....

So...No wonder....Dennis got fired....

Neal likes to swing the rope ....rather than spear the fishy!!!

Bucket...you're not right!!!!

Pot calling Kettle black.....

Pot,

Speaking of fish . . . Have you had the fried catfish at Bo's? Not bad for a fastfood joint.

Where would you prescribe Neal's Top/End for Swinging vs. Hitting? I like to swing from Top rather than End. But is there a more optimum plane angle than the Turned Shoulder?

Thanks!

Kettle

Very close to Haiku poetry. Sweet to my ears anyway!

To me, if I start with the right wrist bent level and vertical and get to the top of the backswing it seems I cant cock my left wrist if I keep the right wrist level. Foggy out there. Please clear.

The left wrist cocks when the right elbow bends.
