Please explain the difference between float and drag loading
I understand and can perform float loading. Works well to really hit the crap outta the ball with no effort. Add to that a completely flat left wrist through impact and watch out

I also understand and can perform drive loading. Learned from Brian at my last visit and use it out of the rough and for most short iron shots as i'm "hitting" them.

BUT

Please explain to me how drag loading differs from float loading. I don't understand how you can drag without at least floating a little.

thanks

jim

There are many hazards accopanied with the Float Loading (10-19-B) procedure. One should never try to incomporate Float Loading into their swing unless there is already a natural tendency towards it. It requires precision timing- in a split second, you have to Cock and immediately Uncock your wrist for Release.

Float Loading is delaying the Cocking of Wrists until the Start Down. However, for many players, there is a tendency for them to do more than that- thereby destroying their Flying Wedges. Float Loading may be used with both Hitting and Swinging.

Drag Loading is a Swinging technique. It is always a pull of the lagging clubhead from a quick start down to release. It has nothing to do with Cocking your wrist on the Start Down- and hence nothing to do with Float Loading. Drag Loading can be performed without Float Loading if you have fully Cocked your Left Wrist before Start Down.

Drag Loading is born from the lower body- the pivot- at the start of the downswing. Found in all Swing strokes- The Great Pull. All accumulators are set and ready to be released.

Float Loading is born from the arms and hands during the downswing. Accumulator #2 is not fully set until the downswing. In fact it is called in the book, 10-19-B, DOWNSTROKE (OR FLOAT) LOADING. Homer goes on to write that the word "FLOAT" describes the sensation - a gentle, lazy float. A far cry from the fierce application that Hogan and Sergio gives it. This is why Tongzilla and others warn of its danger to alignments.

Once you Float Loaded, the motion finishes like a Drag Loaded Lag.

see: 10-19, 7-20, 6-C. Its all there.

AH-HA!

Fog is clearing...however during the change of direction and when centrifugal force puts it force on the clubhead, which puts stress on the shaft, which then loads pp #3....doesn't it "add" more wrist cock? That isn't some form of float loading? Because your left wrist cocks more?

Float Loading With Structure
The Left Wristcock is not properly a function of the Wrist Muscles. Instead, it is the product of Right Elbow Bend (7-3). With Hitting, Right Elbow Action causes Muscle Power to Cock the Wrist. With Swinging, Right Elbow Motion permits Centrifugal Force to Cock the Wrist. Either way, there is normally no Left Wristcock unless the Right Elbow bends. This is true whether the Wrist is Cocked on the Backstroke or on the Downstroke.

With Float Loading, the Wrist is Cocked -- and the Right Elbow is further bent -- on the Downstroke. And this is accomplished with a characteristic 'gentle, even lazy' motion that does not disrupt the required Power Package structure. Herein lies the challenge: You must increase the Right Elbow bend (to affect the Wristcock) while simultaneously applying Right Triceps Extensor Action(to maintain structure).

Learning to bend the Right Elbow while simultaneously making the steady effort to straighten it is no small feat. But it can be done and is worthy of the attempt.
