I'm on the computer quite a lot during the week and this seems to help stave off carpal tunnel and tendenitis in the wrists, hands, and elbows for me. It is also a nice, gentle tool for lightly rehabing injuries from the hands all the way up to the shoulders.

This may not be your problem since you are experiencing pain doing drills, but something else to look into is whether or not you are "swinging the right arm". Homer talked about it in 7-19 and you can search for more info on this site.
I seriously doubt it's a right arm swinging problem....it sounds more like a poor execution problem with the dowels and using direct right triceps thrust instead the magic of the right forearm...
I have been using a right arm swinging motion for a few years now....have used weighted clubs and NO right elbow problems.
