Well, I matched my career best today at an interesting course in Cal City known as Tierra del Sol. It is interesting because most of the greens are highly elevated to prevent borax poisening. The course is not very far from Boron where the world's largest borax mine is located (don't I play in interesting places - aren't you glad you don't ).
I shot a 74 (39 / 35) with 2 doubles (yes, 2 doubles ). I did have 4 birds though. I also just missed a 15-foot eagle putt on a 500 yard par 5. That is the longest par 5 I have ever reached in two (drive was around 270 which left me with 230 to a long, skinny elevated green). I bounced it on with a 3W to 15'. The course is a little short at 6310, but a career round still feels good (it was playing a little longer than normal since they hadn't cut the dandelions...woops fairways in awhile). I also lipped out a couple other birdie putts as well. It could have been better (still only 28 putts so I can't complain).
So, you ask, what was my secret? Feel the power of PP3! I finally felt some really good PP3 feedback on the range and carried it pretty well throughout the day. Not perfectly (drives were a little clanky only averaging ~250ish), but good enough. Oh, I forgot to mention that in the past couple of weeks I seem to have added 20 yards or so on my tee shots (LAG BABY ). It is getting scary out here folks...

Ah the memories of Boron on my trips between San Berdo to Barstow and Needles. Always wondered what went on there. Now I know.
It's Steph lighting up the courses!
At this rate, you'll be setting some course records pretty soon.
Great job!

If you ever are out Boron way again there is an excellent Mexican food place there called Domingo's. Despite it being in the middle of nowhere, the food is quite good. They also have one in Tehachapi. The one in Boron caters quite a few "events" on base and also gets a healthy lunch crowd from time to time.
I got a little over the top with my description of my round (a little euphoria I suspect). Everyone needs to remember that the altitude is around 2500' so those distances are a little inflated. I am trying ( ) not to get too spun up about how far the ball goes, but how many strokes to get it in the hole. Still need to work on my pivot, also (the ball will go even farther ).

It was a long time ago in another life when I was towing Jet Sleds out that way. We ran them on the river between Lake Havasu and Laughlin. 60MPH over the sand bars with 30 people on board. It was an E-Ticket ride and I have some great memories. I was also at Edwards once in the mid-80's hawking some computer networking gear. It's probably still installed there.
Anyway, never discuss the altitude, or wind, fairway bounce, or downhill roll when talking driver distance. Those things simply don't factor into the calculations!
If I ever find (or lose) my way out there again, I will certainly look you up. Ya just never know. Likewise if you find your way to Austin, give me a shout.

By all means let me know if you are cruising this way. There are a few nice places to play as Lynn and Ted found out in October.
I used to drive through Austin every Christmas on my way to the Houston area. This coming Christmas I will be heading to S. Padre Island so Austin is a bit out of the way.
You live in God's country and I am envious (SWTSU nee Texas St. grad so I know of which I speak). Being an ex-pat Texan living in CA is trying indeed. There are many nice things to do and see out here, but the attitudes wear on me after awhile (no offense to the Californians on the forum - just different priorities and perceptions).

Second off, you're lucky that we let Texans live here.
True, but Fresno isn't exactly the CA I was referring to. Once you get off the coast, CA is pronounced with a decided twang and walks with the laid back style only Justin shod feet can provide! Thanks on the round, BTW.
